Volkswagen: The Spirit of Africa 2012

The Spirit of Africa is an annual 4×4 driving challenge devised by legendary South African rally champion Sarel van der Merwe, and supported by Volkswagen South Africa. Participants go through an elimination phase, which is held over about 3 months – currently underway.

The finals are held next month in Namibia. It’s a very exciting event with lots of action. We are producing 5 webisodes for the event, above is the first instalment, the rest will be released over the next week. We will also be doing a documentary on the finals.

The video’s are all produced by our in house video production team R.E.C (Record.Edit.Create). For more info on them go to

R.E.C: Unogwaja Challenge

R.E.C, our in-house film division, recently made the above clip for the Unogwaja Challenge, and is proudly supporting the event.

“The challenge is a 10 day cycle from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg, then running the Comrades Marathon on day 11. It’s a journey of the heart inspired by the life of Phil Masterton-Smith who couldn’t afford the train fare from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg in 1933 so he cycled up instead and finished 10th in the race. He died in World War Two in 1942. His nickname was "Unogwaja" meaning hare in Zulu and his legacy lives on in the Unogwaja Challenge. Wherever you go, go with your heart."
